To further its strategic interests, China is pursuing the Nepal-China Railway Project. Its goal is to improve rail connectivity in border areas even more.
China has made rapid progress on rail connectivity within its borders, according to The SK Post, and is now working on the Trans-Himalayan Railway on the Nepal border, which is merely a political symbolism. The true goal of this project, according to sources, is to encircle India. China will be able to send troops to Nepal’s border quickly as a result of this.
The Chinese embassy in Kathmandu has informed Nepalese officials that Beijing is willing to sign a document facilitating assistance in the feasibility study of the proposed China-Nepal Cross Border Railway (CNR) project. This project will link Tibet’s Kairong with Kathmandu.
A technical study of the proposed 121-kilometer rail route between Keirong and Kathmandu was conducted by the China Railway First Survey and Design Institute (CRFSDI) earlier this year.
The CRFSDI study estimates that the Kairong-Kathmandu rail track will take nine years and cost Rs 30,000 crore to build, according to The HK Post.
According to the report, nearly all of the railways on the Nepalese side will have tunnels and bridges, and the project will cost far more than the current estimate. China will need at least 40 years to recoup its investment in this manner.
During his visit to Nepal, Jinping signed an agreement.
The Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, or Trans-Himalayan Network, is another name for the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network. It is a trade route connecting Nepal and China. It’s part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to improve Eurasia’s connectivity. Xi Jinping, the Chinese President and Communist Party General Secretary, signed an agreement with Nepal on this corridor during his visit to Nepal in 2019. This corridor will also include a number of transportation infrastructure projects. The China-Nepal Railway, which is currently in the planning stages, is a major infrastructure project.
Nepal will have to be extremely costly.
Nepal, on the other hand, is well aware that rail connectivity between Kathmandu and China will be difficult and expensive for it. The cost of building difficult and expensive tunnels in the Himalayas will be too much for Nepal to bear.
