External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in Addu on Sunday to discuss the two countries’ special relationship. Following the meeting, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar tweeted that being welcomed by President Solih of the Maldives is an honour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended personal greetings to him on his behalf.

During his tenure, he discussed the special relationship between the two countries, which yielded many tangible results. Jaishankar went on to say, “I had the honour of attending the inauguration ceremony of the National College of Police and Law Enforcement” (NCPLE). The NCPLE, he said, demonstrates India’s commitment to law enforcement. “The road project in Addu is building a new ground in India-Maldives friendship by taking forward the road project,” India’s External Affairs Minister tweeted.

Apart from that, Jaishankar said at a joint press conference with Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Saturday that the NCPLE will assist the Maldivian Police Service in training officers and improving their crime-fighting abilities. In a separate tweet, he stated that the Bhoomi Pujan of the Addu Road Project emphasises our development partnership. A deal for the improvement of Addu and the protection of the coast was also signed. The Maldives’ security will be strengthened by the transfer of the Coastal Radar System.

The opening of the ‘Drug Detoxification and Rehabilitation Center’ will strengthen the relationship even more.

The inauguration of the ‘Drug Detoxification and Rehabilitation Centre,’ according to External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, reflects our people-to-people contact. Our shared environmental commitment is demonstrated by the new eco-tourism sector. It’s a good day for India-Maldives development cooperation.
